How Reformer and Table Classes Work
(Scroll Down to See Our Classes)

On our schedule, you'll see classes listed as Equipment Classes. These classes will either be Reformer or Table classes. We like having the flexibility to meet the needs of those signed up and ask what each person prefers to do that hour. If a class is limited to 6 students you can rest assured that Reformer will be used and if limited to 7 it will be Table. If the classes aren't full we have a little more room to choose and often use both Reformer and Table within the class. All other classes are specifically listed on the schedule (ie. Mat Class, Low Chair Class).

Pilates Classes We Offer

Introductory Pilates Equipment Class

This class is perfect for those new to Pilates and those wanting to take classes. We will cover the basic principles of Pilates and beginner exercises on the Reformer and the Cadillac (also known as the Table). We suggest taking 3 Introductory classes before taking other classes on our schedule. If you have specific injuries please reach out to us before signing up for this class. We work with all sorts of pain and injuries in all our classes and we like to prepare ahead when we can for each individual. This is what helps us stand out above other studios.

Balance / Strength / Mobility Class

In this class, we will focus on the interconnectedness of balance, strength, and mobility and how they often work together to promote overall physical well-being. I will integrate these together using the Pilates equipment, bands, and weights, pulling from not only my Pilates toolbox but also from my yoga training and my personal experience with strength training.

Ski conditioning for Pilates, class in Boulder Colorado

Ski Conditioning Class

This class will get you ready for the slopes whether it’s on a board, skis, or in snowshoes. But this isn’t limited to the mountains - it’s also great winter training for cyclists and runners. This is a legs and core-focused class and will utilize the Pilates Low chair for most of the class. Many of you will be familiar with the chair exercises we will do in this class but what's different is the gradual increase of repetitions, throwing a bit of the Mat exercises into the mix, and building up to several rounds of the exercises. I'll have sweat towels for you!

Reformer classes in our Boulder Colorado Pilates studio

Reformer Class

Pilates Reformer classes are done solely on the Reformer. This is probably the most well-known piece of Pilates equipment. The Reformer is a very versatile piece of equipment because you lay, sit, kneel, and stand on the moving carriage. The carriage moves within the frame of the reformer and there are five springs for varying degrees of tension. The Reformer helps us improve strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and range of motion. Joseph Pilates would say the individual will “reform” one’s body by doing his exercises. Reformer classes are 55 minutes in length and limited to 5 students.

Pilates table class in our Boulder Co studio

Table Class

Table classes are done only on the Tables (also known as the Cadillac). Many people find the Table a little less intimidating as what you lay or sit on is not moving. Many of the mat exercises can be done on the Table with the assistance of springs. So if you struggle in a mat class a Table class can give you access to exercises that may seem impossible on the mat. You will get a true sense of equal and opposite forces while creating stability, strength, and flexibility through Table work. Table classes run 55 minutes in length and are limited to 6 students.

Low Chair Class

The Pilates Low chair is Kim’s personal favorite piece of Pilates equipment but don’t let that sway you. Chair is a fantastic challenge (not to be confused with it being difficult). Chair is a great way to work on balance, leg strength, core strength, posture, balancing out weaknesses, and cross-training for your sport. Many cyclists use the chair in the offseason to cross-train, while skiers and snowboarders use the chair to get in shape for the winter season. Chair is a tad more challenging than the Reformer and Table as there is less surface area for you to lay or sit on and the majority of the work is done standing, therefore, challenging your balance. Chair classes are 55 minutes in length and are limited to 6 students.

Open Studio Class

Open studio classes are similar to going to the gym. You get to do your specific program of exercises throughout the class and move around each piece of equipment as you desire. The instructor will guide, correct, keep you safe, and often teach you a new exercise. We find Open studio classes fit well for those who have specific issues when keeping up with a typical class isn't attainable. It is best if you are new to Pilates that you take at least three private sessions before attending an Open Studio class. These classes run 55 minutes in length and are limited to 6 students.

Mat Class

Mat classes are often considered the most challenging as there is no equipment to support or give you feedback. With that said, in our small classes, we can guide beginners and those with pain through the mat work. We use therabands and the like to help support you where needed and with our expertise, we know just how to modify exercises for your specific needs or to challenge you when it is necessary. Mat exercises are the home program work of the Pilates Method. Mat classes are limited to 6 students and are 55 minutes in length.
